For the hardening of cold unsaturated polyester resins (room temperature), the use of organic peroxides alone is generally not sufficient. On organic peroxides the accelerator has the function of increasing the speed of formation of the radicals so as to allow the polymerization reaction. The cobalt bis(2-ethylhexanoate)/cobalt octoate accelerator is used to activate these organic peroxides (generally ketonperoxides) in the hardening of unsaturated polyester resins.
